Final Chapter Teaser
“You know,” Billy grumbled, drawing Steve back to the present. His voice was rough with sleep and he was peering at Steve out of the corner of his eye, one eyebrow raised, “I’m still debating throwing you in the water.”
“Good morning to you too,” he laughed brightly, turning into Billy, arms reaching out for him, happy to find that Billy was already reaching for him too. He was warm, skin soft and muscles firm under Steve’s hands as they pressed against one another. They kissed, slow and sweet in the early morning light and Steve floated in a haze of joy.
After a long time but not long enough, never long enough, Billy pulled back and said, “Can I ask you something?”
“Anything,” Steve said, running the tip of his pointer finger along the sharp line of Billy’s jaw.
“What made you finally ask?” Billy’s expression was so open, Steve had never seen him look quite so vulnerable, it made Steve feel warm inside.
“Well,” Steve huffed a laugh, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth, “I don’t know if you noticed, but I’ve kinda been losing my shit recently, getting into fights, being all moody, and Robin got fucking sick of me. She sat me down yesterday morning and told me that all your exes looked like me so I needed to get my shit together, put my big boy pants on and make a move.”
Billy stared at him for a moment before barking a laugh and saying, “I owe that woman the biggest bunch of flowers.”
“And I owe her fifty dollars and a foot massage.”
“What?”
“She bet me fifty dollars and a foot massage that you’d say yes. Honestly she was so sure of herself, it really helped convince me to finally do something.”
“You were swindled,” Billy snorted.
